Standards of PON ( Passive Optical Network )
Fiberall provide ONU and OLT for both EPON and GPON, the EPON equipment complies with IEEE 802.3ah standard and GPON product complies with ITU-T G.984 standard. We hereby list them and other relevant standard as below for your reference:
ITU-T G.983 : It is the standard of APON and BPON. Now both of them is not mainstream technology. APON (ATM Passive Optical Network) is the first generation passive optical network standard, it based on Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) and mainly used in business application. BPON ( Broadband Passive Optical Network ) is a standard based on APON but it supports more like WDM, dynamic and high speed upstream bandwidth allocation, and durability. It also created OMCI , a standard of management interface to combine OLT and ONU/ONT from different providers.
IEEE 802.3ah : For EPON or GEPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) . This is an IEEE/EFM standard for Ethernet packet data. Now the 802.3ah standard is a part of the IEEE 802.3 standard. Now there are about fifteen million EPON ports in use. EPON technology based on IEEE 802.3ah is vigorously developed from 2008, and it also popular in other Asian countries.
ITU-T G.984 for GPON (Gigabit Passive Optical Network) . It is the development of BPON but GPON support higher speed and its safety is enhanced, and it provide Layer 2 protocol for options (ATM, GEM, Ethernet). GPON based on ITU-T G.984 is under development and Fiberall also provide OLT and ONU based on GPON technology. It is with much high speed rate than EPON.
Other relevant standards include IEEE P802.3av for 10G-EPON and is SCTE IPS910, but they do not have much relations with our product so we do not introduce them here.
